Nutrition & Diet
At Hilltop Kennel, we believe that a healthy start begins with quality nutrition. That’s why all of our puppies are weaned onto Life’s Abundance All Life Stages dog food — a premium diet we trust for its quality ingredients and balanced nutrition. We strongly recommend continuing with this food (or a similar high-quality alternative) to ensure your puppy continues to thrive as they grow.
Your puppy will come home with a small bag of the Life’s Abundance food they’ve been eating. This will help ease the transition to their new home and avoid digestive upset. If you decide to switch to another brand, please do so gradually by mixing in the new food over 7–10 days.
Up to 6 months old: Feed your puppy three times a day — morning, midday, and evening. After 6 months: Most puppies do well on two meals per day.Avoid free-feeding (leaving food out all day), as scheduled meals help with house training and weight management.
Use treats in moderation, especially during training. Choose healthy, small-sized treats to avoid extra calories. We include a sample of our favorite training treats in your puppy pack! Most puppies on a balanced diet do not need extra supplements. If you're considering any additions like vitamins or joint support, always consult your vet first.
While it’s tempting to share snacks with your puppy, many human foods can be harmful. Never feed your dog:
Chocolate
Grapes or raisins
Onions and garlic
Macadamia nuts
Cooked bones
When in doubt, stick to vet-approved dog food and treats.
